REBATES are they worth it? We say YES!
Are you a Sydney water customer? If yes, below are 4 different scenarios to save you money, which one will suit you best?
Sydney Water and the Federal Government are offering huge incentives for all of us to save water.
This is not applicable to everyone, the rebates are conditional and we urge you to look at their web sites for the full details.
1. Buy a 5,000 litre water tank and pressure responsive pump through this site for a total cost of $1,238. Have it connected to your washing machine and at least one toilet by a licensed plumber.
Get the rebates from Sydney water:
* $400 for the 5,000 litre tank,
* $500 for connection to washing machine and
* $500 for connection of 1 toilet.
As well as the Federal Governments rebate of $500.
Total rebates of $1,900. Your cost so far is $1,238 for tank and pump, difference is $662. That would possibly cover the total cost of a licensed plumber to do the job. This could mean that there is no cost whatsoever to you after you get the rebate!
2. Another way of doing it if you want more water storage. Buy a new 10,000 litre water tank and pump through this site ($2,000) and have it connected to your washing machine and at least one toilet by a licensed plumber, Sydney water will give you $1,500 and the Federal Government will give you $500, a rebate of $2,000 in total. If you buy through this web site's affordable prices you will have $0 that could be used to reimburse part of the cost of your plumber, but the tank and pump have been covered.
3. Are 5,000 and 10,000 litre tanks too big for your property? Then lets look at getting a 2,100 litre tank and pressure responsive pump instead and work out the rebates. A 2,100 litre round design tank and pump will cost you $993 through this web site's, the total rebates work out to $1,550, a difference of $557 that could be used to reimburse part of the cost of your plumber.
4. You don't have enough room for a 2,100 litre round tank? You may need a slim line style tank. Slim design tanks are always more expensive due to more materials used in their construction but sometimes we just don't have enough space to fit any other type of tank. We can still work a surplus towards hiring a licensed plumber! The price of a 2,000 litre slim design tank and pump through this web site is $1,419, the total rebates work out to $1,550, a difference of $131 that could be used to reimburse part of the cost of your plumber.
Of course, there is the possibility that you may not need a pump. If you own a 2 storey or split level home on a naturally sloping block, you may be able to position the tank so that it collects water and has a gravity feed to a laundry and toilet in the lower level of your home. This can save from $270 upwards depending on which pump you may have chosen. More money towards reimbursement of the installation by your plumber.
Toilets and the laundry are usually positioned beside an external wall in a home, making connection a relatively simple process.
The only down side is that you will have to pay for it all up front, but it is only a short period of time for that $1,550, $1,900 or $2,000 to appear in your bank account, 60 days according to Sydney water.

* disclaimer and small print.
* The scenarios mentioned on this page only apply to customers of Sydney Water. Please check with the water utility that supplies your water if you are on "town water" for their incentives packages. None of the scenarios apply to rural properties or if the property that you own has received a previous rebate for a water tank.
* It is presumed that you have a firm, level area that is adequate to support the water tank and that you will not be violating any local council rules regarding distance to boundaries etc. Also that an external power point if needed is close to where your pump will be positioned.
* Depending on your site, a concrete slab may or may not be needed. Please read the manufacturers installation recommendations prior to installation
* Plumbers will charge what they feel is the correct fee for their services, you may get cheaper, you may pay more. We advise getting a few quotes.
* The total cost of tank and connection by licensed plumber can not be less than the rebates.
Note, if you are installing a tank due to BASIX or a local government requirement, you may not be eligible for rebates or grants. Please check with your water supplier and authorities.
